I wanted to send some sort of holiday greeting to my friends, but it is

so difficult in today's world to know exactly what to say without offending someone.

So I met with my barrister yesterday, and on his advice I wish to say the following:

Please accept with no obligation, expressed or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced with the most enjoyable traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2007, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make our country great (not to imply that Great Britain is necessarily greater than any other country) and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

By accepting this greeting, you are accepting the following terms:

  1. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal at any time by the wisher.
  2. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting.
  3. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for him/her or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher.
  4. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first.
  5. This warranty is limited to the replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

These are just a small selection from the hundreds of pieces of art on display at the Wooster on Spring project -- some big, some small. And of course, many others, including the Soundlab music installation, can only be experienced in person. If you're unable to make the show, however, check out Streetsy.com-- we'll post the rest of our pictures from inside and outside the building there over the next couple of days.

Artist-designed beach towels

These artist-designed beach towels ($50) are for those who want to wrap themselves in art. Featuring works by Alex Katz, Marilyn Minter, Richard Phillips and Rob Pruitt (pictured above from L-R), the towels are gigantic (measuring 60"x70"), soft and the colors look great in terry cloth.

You can try your luck faxing an order form to the non-profit behind the project, Works On Whatever.

"ILoveGraffiti.com is the online graffiti photo archive of Neck.CNS. All the pieces and murals that I've taken pictures of since i began painting in 1989 were starting to collect dust in the attic. So I got the idea to open up my graffiti archive and share all these amazing graffiti pieces with you.

I guess that there are a few oddities and rarities to be found among these flix. I started taking these pictures in 1989 in Munich and roamed the city searching for hidden graffiti spots. Since then, I've had the possibility to photograph graffiti styles all over Europe and beyond. I'll put all these graffiti photos online at ILoveGraffiti.com as I get around to scanning them.

I hope you enjoy this site and all the amazing graffiti art.

Art gallery bosses at Liverpool's Tate were criticised this week for displaying a new exhibition showing life-size models performing oral sex.

The gallery has no age-limit to stop children looking at the plastic figures placed in illicit positions. Phillip Williamson, head of Liverpool's Christian Fellowship School, branded the exhibition "disgraceful" and called for visitors to boycott it. The Tate defended its actions, saying that the exhibit had "very visible" warning about the content.

An exhibition of new paintings and works at L.A. Louver
16 November - 30 December, 2006

Gajin Fujita PortraitL.A. Louver is delighted to present a long-anticipated exhibition of new paintings and works on paper by the Japanese-American artist Gajin Fujita. Fujita’s increasingly sophisticated works reflect many cultural influences that range from the lush visuals of traditional Japanese tattoos, screen painting from the Edo period and woodblock prints by ukiyo- e artists, to contemporary Japanese cartoons and hip-hop culture.

“ …the paintings present themselves as competing fields of moral and technical mastery that coexist in their own accomplishment. The Renaissance compositions do not ‘critique’ the Edo characters. The Edo characters do not ‘critique’ the graffiti or vice versa. Everything is equal, and, insofar as the synthesis is complete, beautiful, and just a little frightening in its insistence on our fragile mortality.” – Dave Hickey

Talk to creative cats in London and it is almost guaranteed that Slam City Skates and a notorious warehouse named the Ice Palace are dropped in the conversation sooner or later. Speaking to Toby Shuall, proud owner of clothing company extraordinaire 'Suburban Bliss', is no exception... difference is that he actually knows what he's talking about. Lodown took the opportunity to follow him into the trees, to places of untouched earth, in order to talk about the past, present and the warmth of friendship.

Monster Graffiti PaintTimes are changing, many of the first generation b-boys shake thier heads in disbelief at the current attention and hype of the over zealous mainstream market. This chaos has however created a range of possibilities and options for those, new and old truly dedicated to the cause. Like any major city in the UK, Glasgow represents, the scene has evoved with a collective of old school writers and new school talent. Darrell started out selling Sparvar Tuffcolours and established StyleWars Distribution way back in 96. From the boot of his car he maintained a steady supply of tools for the local contingent, escalating over the years and leading him to start his own paint company, Monstercolors!

Monstercolors own-brand cans are made up of several state-of-the-art components, plus the double thick nondrip paint. Soft cap for total control or fat cap for fast fills.... What more could you ask for?

Banksy's seemingly unstoppable rise to art's A-list seems to have been given an extra fillip of controversy by his lampooning Michael Jackson.

The artwork, which features Jackson apparently trying to tempt Hansel and Gretel with sweets, is featured as part of an exhibition in an amusement arcade called "Santa's Grotto", which is also displaying art, sculpture and graffiti from around the world.

The enigmatic Banksy commented: "I felt the spirit of Christmas was being lost.it was becoming increasingly commercialised."

More about Phil Frost

Phil Frost makes paintings and sculptures that usually are a result of collaging and layering of images, along with the formation of hand-made, often symmetrical black and white patterns. These patterns, which are created with painstaking detail and using correction fluid as a medium, offer an appearance that oscillates between modernist designs and primitivism, abstraction and representation.

Frost's intensive approach toward every object he works on, whether it is the surface of a white canvas or a found object in the streets of New York, invariably result in a dense layering of forms and tightly knitted designs that conform richly complex compositions that engage and change before the eyes of the viewer. Frost's patterns often appear as arcane codes and a language of its own, composed of symbols such as letters, hearts, dots and mask-like forms.

In 2005 Frost's work was shown along side that of Picasso, Dali, Magritte and Warhol in a New York show tracing the History of the written word in works of art during the last century.

A gang of thieves disguised themselves as workman to steal the door of a derelict building, painted by guerilla artist Banksy. The Bristol-based artist had daubed a painting on the door as part of his hometown's biennial celebrations in 2004. The gang tried to get the door, known as the Liverpool Love Rat, off its hinges but they were scared away by a group of cleaners. Jane Mills, Director of Jacaranda Developments, which owns the building, said: "These men just turned up dressed like builders and carrying tools. They tried to get the door off but it is very heavy and I think they were struggling. One of our cleaners spotted them and asked them what they were doing and they just ran off." Banksy paintings have been sold for up to £62,400. The door has now been moved to a secret location.
