In a culture in which people are easily lured by the appeal of status-enhancing symbols, I find beauty in derelict cars and unkempt landscapes. I have always been interested in painting vehicles and scenes that have defined the evolution of the American landscape.

In this particular series, I commemorate commercial vehicles inundated with graffiti and rust, working vehicles, and well-traveled recreational vehicles. I find that there is so much character in old delivery trucks and vans—especially when covered with graffiti—and in the old RVs parked in someone’s yard off a main road. Removing them from their everyday context gives them portrait-like importance. I paint with devoted attention to every imperfection and sign of age.

Painting and drawing these objects gives me a chance to document a time and place, and to make still a part of the ever-changing environment.

EACH BEATLE KUBRICK SIZE: 28cm(L) x 35cm(W) x 68cm(H)

Infinitely influential to contemporary pop music and generations of musicians, The Beatles continues to change the visage of pop culture and contemporary culture for decades on end. Their uber famed single ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ anchored top of the charts in both the U.K. and U.S. immediately after its release in March 1964.

SILLY THING proposed the ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ 1000% Kubrick project to Medicom Toys and The Beatles around two years ago, and it is not until winter 2008 that it has come to its final stage. The plan sees the four members of The Beatles (John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr) shaped into stylised creations of 1000% Kubrick oversized figures. With the 680mm height, they could be the biggest Beatles collector’s toys ever. At a time when the crossover of pop culture and art are more and more recognized, The Beatles ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ 1000% Kubrick Set makes a delightfully light-hearted investment.

HK$15,800 (A SET OF 4) Go buy 'em at www.think-silly.com/beatles/

Apple's iPod continues to offer more and more capacity for thousands of tracks that never get played.

So, the idea of only being allowed to select 90 minutes of music for your MP3 player suddenly becomes valuable as the songs we choose have to hold meaning.

Product design collective NVDRS (Invaders) have created the USB Tape concept to address this gap between emotion and performance.
